PLEASE STOP.
This is what I want you to do first, right now, before going any further. STOP.
Stop fretting about food.
Stop worrying about your weight. Stop getting anxious about whether or not this diet or that low-fat meal will work. STOP: STOP: STOP: Stop all the stresses and fears and worries and anxiety you have surrounding food and your weight. Let’s begin again. Restart the clock. Start afresh. Accept that right here, right now, is where you are. You weigh what you weigh, your figure is as it is. Accept that. Totally accept who you are. Now accept that you need food to survive. Okay you need air more than you need food, you need water more than you need food but if you don’t eat at all then you will die within a month or so. Accepting that you need to eat is as good a place to start as any. Why should you feel guilty about doing something that you need to do to live? You don’t feel guilty about breathing, you don’t feel guilty about drinking water. So why should you feel guilty about eating? Okay, you may have some intolerances or allergies that prevent you eating certain foods. That can not change. You will have to keep your special dietary requirements in mind at all times. Apart from this however, consider the well known phrase ‘you are what you are eat’. There can not be a more true statement than this. You literally are what you eat. Your body digests the food, breaks it down into its constituent molecules the proteins, the vitamins, the sugars, the fats and your body uses that to replenish and repair itself. Now consider this. If you are what you eat and you feel guilty about food, then not only are you eating the physical aspect of the food but you are also taking in the emotions towards it. The guilt will cause your body stress. Modern science accepts that stress is the number one cause of many, many health problems. Now, if you accept that you need to eat and that you don’t want to feel stress about it, then you have to change your attitude. This is where accepting who you are and accepting your current state comes in. From now on, special dietary requirements aside, I want you to stop stressing about, worrying about, fretting about something that you need to survive and which can have a huge emotional impact on your well being. Instead, learn to LOVE your food. Eat every mouthful as the joy that it is. Accept the food into yourself to be a part of you to maintain your health and your well being to replenish and rejuvenate you. Pay attention to your food, the look of it, the tastes, the smells, the textures, even how it sounds when you eat it. The more attention you pay to your food the more you will come to love it. The more your love it the healthier will your attitude be towards it. Now, you are on your way to eating like a French woman!
